The shortage of resources/energy and environmental degradation are serious problems for all developing countries. With the great efforts devoted to solving these problems, substantial progress has been achieved in China and other countries. To share and exchange the knowledge and experiences in abating such problems, the international training workshop on Frontier of Green Technology in Chemistry and Engineering was held at Institute of Process Engineering (IPE), September 24-29, Beijing, China. The workshop is organized by CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Green Technology and supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS) and The Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS). Mr. Zhenyu Wang, Director, Division of International Organization Programmes, Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS; Prof. Suojiang Zhang, Director of Institute of Process Engineering, CAS gave welcome addresses on the opening session. Prof. Hongzhong Li, Academician of CAS; Prof. Kenji Suzuki, Academician of Nagoya Industrial Science Research Institute of Japan attended the inauguration and gave the plenary talks.
Over 40 participants participated in the international training workshop, among which 26 are oversea participants from 5 developing countries, mainly from Pakistan, Thailand, India, Uganda etc. 15 international renowned scientists on green technology were invited as lecturers, respectively Prof. Lifeng Yan from University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Zhancheng Guo from University of Science and Technology Beijing, Prof. Yunfa Chen from IPE et al.
During this workshop, there is a highlight panel where 7 selected participants reporting the main findings of the workshop. The participants also visited CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Green Technology, IPE, Institute of Botany and Beijing Botanical Garden China.
The participants all expressed their gratitude for the essential skills and experiences learned in the field of green technology in chemistry and engineering from the workshop. They also acknowledged the workshop for providing the international communication platform for closer international cooperation and academic communication, which will further enhance the scientific capacity of developing countries.
